The Verona Card as a Public Transport Ticket

The card is activated upon first use and is then valid for 24 or 48 hours. During this period, you can use all city buses operated by ATV transport company unlimited times. However, the Verona Card is only valid within the city area - regional buses and the airport shuttle bus are not included. The funicular railway (Castel San Pietro) is also excluded.

Practical Use

Hold your Verona Card against the ticket scanner in the bus when boarding until a signal confirms validation. This validates the card and its validity period begins. At every transfer you must hold the card against the reader again. Ticket inspection: Keep the card ready - showing it during an inspection is sufficient as a ticket. Without validation, you risk a fine. Additionally, the Verona Card is not transferable - each person needs their own card.

Timetable and Public Transport App

Verona's city buses run approximately from 5:00 AM until midnight. Late evenings and on Sundays and holidays, there's a reduced schedule - many lines run less frequently or under different numbers (90-series lines for evening/Sunday service). There are no night buses after midnight, so plan return trips before 12:00 AM. For route planning and current information, use the official ATV app "Ticket Bus Verona" (for Android and iOS). The app shows timetables (including real-time data) and stops, and allows the purchase of digital tickets.

Important Lines for Tourists

  • Airport: The shuttle bus Airlink (Line 199) connects Verona Airport with Porta Nuova (main train station). The Verona Card is not valid here - a separate ticket is required.
  • Train Station → City Center: From Porta Nuova station, you can reach the Arena (Piazza Brà) in just a few minutes. Bus lines 11-13 run this route, among others. In the evenings and on Sundays and holidays, lines 90, 92, 96-98 operate.
  • Attractions: You can easily reach more distant destinations by bus. To Castelvecchio, for example, lines 21-24 run to the castle. You can also reach the Roman Theater and Castel San Pietro by bus (line 73 goes nearby, then continue on foot).
  • Transfer hubs: The most important bus hub is Porta Nuova (main train station). In the city center, Piazza Brà (Arena) serves as a central transfer point where many lines converge.
